Desired Tutors:

Able to relate with students from diverse cultural backgrounds

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

bullet

Commitment of at least 2 hours of volunteering per week

bullet

Willing to tutor in basic subjects such as reading, science and math

bullet

Good leadership skills, an enthusiastic personality, and good sense of humor.

bullet

Willingness to be creative and flexible.

bullet

Desire to make a difference in the lives of low-income students.

Strongly Desired but not required Skills:

bulletStrong in math (arithmetic, pre-algebra, geometry).
bulletKnowledgeable of computers; good computer skills, and familiarity with basic software programs (Windows, MS Office, Internet Navigation).
bulletOther computer skills such as Photoshop, Web Design, Video Editing helpful but not required.

Job Description of Volunteer Tutoring:

Tutors are an essential part of our afternoon (2:30 – 5:30) CyberYouth Program and a very important component of our staff, helping with the many academic and technology-based enrichment activities the Program offers.

General Responsibilities:

bulletProvide homework help
bulletSupport and help students working with technology-based activities/projects.
bullet  Work in coordination with Program Manager to meet the academic and technology-based needs of our students.
bullet Provide a safe and non-threatening environment for students.
bullet Keep an organized and low-noise level environment.
bulletBe able to assess and evaluate the progress of students in their homework and projects.

 

Reports to:  CyberYouth Program Manager.
Commitment: At least 2 hours a week faithfully.
Schedule: Tutors could volunteer at any time between 2:30  and 5:30p.m

 Basic Training and Orientation

All tutors will receive a basic training/Orientation session upon arrival. The following chart is an example of what a typical afternoon at CyberYouth looks like

Snack Time

This will be the only time food will be served.

3:45 pm-5:00 pm

Independent Project Time,

Special Activity, or

Instruction Time

Mandatory for everyone.

Tutoring Session #2

Wrap Up

Save work to personal folders; log off computers; clean up, leave your area neat and organized, and gather personal belongings.
