Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

Commitment of at least 2 hours of volunteering per week

Willing to tutor in basic subjects such as reading, science and math
|

Good leadership skills, an enthusiastic personality, and
good sense of humor.

Willingness to be creative and flexible.
|
 |
Desire to make a difference in the lives of low-income
students.
|
Strongly Desired but not required Skills:
 | Strong in math (arithmetic, pre-algebra, geometry). |
 | Knowledgeable of computers; good computer skills, and familiarity with
basic software programs (Windows, MS Office, Internet Navigation). |
 | Other computer skills such as Photoshop, Web Design,
Video Editing helpful but not required. |
Job Description of Volunteer Tutoring:
Tutors are an
essential part of our afternoon (2:30 – 5:30) CyberYouth Program and a very
important component of our staff, helping with the many academic and
technology-based enrichment activities the Program offers.
General Responsibilities:
 | Provide homework help |
 | Support and help students working with technology-based
activities/projects. |
 | Work in coordination with Program Manager to meet the academic
and technology-based needs of our students. |
 | Provide a safe and non-threatening environment for students. |
 | Keep an organized and low-noise level environment. |
 | Be able to assess and evaluate the progress of students in their homework and
projects. |
Basic
Training and Orientation
All tutors
will receive a basic training/Orientation session upon arrival. The
following chart is an example of what a typical afternoon at CyberYouth
looks like
